Hiking around the highest mountain of New Zealand – Mt Cook

IMG_7801

Hello!

We just got to another fantastic destination, and that is Lake Tekapo. Just a few kilometers from this lake, there is Mt Cook, the highest peak of New Zealand. We slept three nights in this region but I could use a few more! I had to separate the pictures to two different articles, otherwise your computers would probably explode!

So the first day, we did a hike in the Hooker Valley, which was a pretty nice path that gets you the closest to Mt Cook from all the tracks. There is an extraordinary grey lake with huge ice floes right underneath it.

In the afternoon, we managed to do the Key Point track, where we could see a glacier, whose name I’ve already forgotten, and since the sun goes down at about 10PM here in New Zealand, we did also a short hike up to Blue Lakes and Tasman Glacier.

The second & third day we spent around the two lakes, but more about it in the next post!)
