Roadtrip in Norway – part 3

IMG_0865

Hey everyone,

This is the last part of our Norwegian adventures (I know, finally… :)). We have got so many amazing pictures that I had to share loads of them again, hope you don’t mind and I promise this is the last time:))

In the last posted, we ended by visiting Kristiansund. After that we headed back south and the next stop was supposed to be Innerdalen, which Vojta found by coincidence while surfing on the internet, trying to plan the itenerary for us. It may come as a surprise since it is considered to be the mopst beautiful valley in the entire Norway! Take a look, isn’t it amazing?! We did not hike the whole valley mainly because of the weather (again…), but we reached the first stop – Renndølsetra – the turistic cabins where you can see the majestic Innerdalsårnet, or the Innerdal Tower, looming over the valley. After a while the sun came up and lit the sky and all the surroundings, which gave us even more staggering views of the scenery. We took out the flag and pose for a bit 😀

We hit the road again towards Jotunheimen because we still had several hundreds of kilometers in the car before arriving. We passed through some more stunning places, like Drivdalen valley, Norway’s oldest national park Rondane and also Dovrefjell – Sunndalsfjella, where you can find some of the highest mountains in the entire Norway and also herds of ancient muskoxen. We happened to spot one but sadly was pretty far away from us. Later in the afternoon we arrived in Jotunheimen at Gjendesheim, but – SURPRISE – it was raining heavily again.

We decided to rest that day and spend the evening and night in the hut before we take on Besseggen Ridge in the morning. The hut was huge and comfy, consisting of several objects for sleeping. After an hour the sun smiled at us again, so we spent the evening by a fireplace with a book and an amazing view on the Gjende lake.

The Besseggen hike was not the easiest one, but it was very time consuming in the first place. Since we started very early and it was still quite chilly (we knew from the forecast that it was supposed to be very nice later that day) we decided to start hiking next to the lake which was not very difficult, but ut still took us about 4 hours before we reached the Memurubu hut. Since it was right next to the lake, it didn’t offer any spectacular views and was a little bit boring, but when we arrived at the hut, we were already tired…and we still had to go up! We were fortunate to finally get some quality sun and it made the whole day much nicer. We were surprised (again!) by all the tourists walking in both directions – quite often still with a smile on their faces because they took the boat and didn’t walk like we did – we could only lament and keep on going:) The hike was probably the most beautiful and exciting one we did though. Even though we still had to go up and up and up…one moment you thought that it can go any higher, the next one you knew you were mistaken. The great compensation was that we got to see a herd of reindeers which was really quite amazing and we can cross off them from our list of to-see-animals.

It took us about 11 hours  to come back to the hut and the resting place. We packed our stuff and grilled first real Norwegian salmon.

There was only Oslo ahead of us now. We visited many familiar places like the opera house, but we also got to see some places we didn’t really have time for before. One of the most interesting ones were for example Vigeland Park Ekeberg, where you can find a viewpoint of Oslo which inspired Munch to paint his famous Scream. We spent a day and a half in Oslo before going more south and visiting Sweden which was not really a pleasant experience since it rained brutally the whole time we were there. We did not really get a good look at Malmo, so we were really happy that when we crossed the bridge to Copenhagen, sunny weather was awaiting us. We went there last year but still had to visit the Little Mermaid and the most beautiful street – Nyhavn.
